Standard Base64 versus Base64URL
Base64 represents bytes using ASCII characters. The URL-safe variant swaps + and / for - and _, and often drops trailing padding. JWTs use this representation.

Base64 represents bytes using ASCII characters. The URL-safe variant swaps + and / for - and _, and often drops trailing padding. JWTs use this representation.
Input and output are interpreted as UTF-8 text. When bytes contain arbitrary binary data, this utility raises an error rather than inventing text characters.
Base64 is reversible without a secret key. Never use it to protect passwords, secrets or personal information.
